Top 5 Ways You Can Prepare for College

Since most of you future Jags are seniors in high school, here are 5 tips you should consider when preparing for college.
  1. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! Make sure your grades are up to par and fine tune your ACT study habits that way you can be in academically good shape. Working extra hard to boost your ACT could be the difference between not getting a scholarship at all (22 and below composite score), and getting up to full tuition, $2,000 housing/dining credits, and $2,000 to study abroad (33-36 composite score)!
  2. Talk to your recruitment counselor. Recruitment counselors are there to help students! Talk to yours to make sure you have all of your bases covered. This includes meeting deadlines and having all of the proper paperwork completed and submitted.
  3. Make a plan. It is SO helpful to have something to look back on and use as a reference when planning your education for the next four years. As a high school student, you may not be familiar with the college schedule and that's O.K. Just lay a foundation for all of the big goals you want to accomplish during your time at South to steer you in the right direction.
  4. Sign up for orientation. This goes along with making sure all of your ducks are in a row! Signing up for orientation is the first step towards starting your college career. Orientation is the first official school function you will attend as a baby Jag, so it's important to reserve a date to join us on campus and receive your new student ID!
  5. Spend time with your family and friends! Now, you might just be coming down the road for school, but if you are like me, all of your family and friends are going to be hundreds of miles away. Savor every moment you have with them and be sure to let everyone know how much you care about them! Your journey as a Jag acts as the stepping stone towards developing your place in this world and becoming a fully realized adult. Savor it!
