SouthBound 2k19

It is about that time that high school seniors should be making their final decisions about what they want to do once they graduate. For students that have committed to South, here is a checklist of things to do in order to be prepared for the fall semester:

1) Once committed to South, register for Southbound Orientation here. Signing up for an orientation date is one way to let South know you plan to attend for the upcoming year. The sooner you register, the more dates available. So, pick a date that works best for your schedule and sign up before it's too late.

2) If you want to live on campus, apply for housing! The priority deadline just passed, but it is still not too late to apply for the fall semester. Students that submit a housing application after the priority deadline receive randomly assigned rooms and roommates based on their preferences listed out in the housing contract. 3) Students that may or may not be committed to South can go ahead and accept their academic scholarships, if they qualify, through JagSpot. Accepting a scholarship to South is not the same thing as committing to South. If students accept their academic scholarships to South, it just guarantees that the university will set aside that money for that specific student!

4) Completing FAFSA information is also a good financial step in preparing for college. Students that think they might not even qualify for federal aid could still benefit from filling out their FAFSA information.

5) If students have to move on campus or either somewhere nearby, they should go ahead and start preparing for their new living space. Look at what your residence hall or new place offers and make a list of things you will need. Stores such as Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond offer registries for students that are in need of supplies. Stocking up on what you will need later will also help you split spendings up, so that not too much comes out at any one time.

Overall, there are plenty of things you can be doing to get ready for the upcoming year, so get to it!
